Narrative tenses - Archibald GE B2.2 homework

Hi,

click on this link to watch the video whose plot you have to put into writing for the next class:
http://www.simonscat.com/stickytape.html

On this website you will also find other videos about Simon's Cat - if you'd rather describe a different clip, don't hesitate to do this! :-) The only thing all the stories need to have in common is the use of all the tenses I outlined in class on Wednesday.

I wish you good luck,
Ola.

Procrastination

You need this link to do your homework properly:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4P785j15Tzk

You are supposed to learn to read the text you received in class, repeating single sentences after the voiceover.

Don't procrastinate - get down to work and do your best to improve your pronunciation!

All best,
O.Broniś.

Homework - consonants

"Hurt" performed by Nine Inch Nails, with lyrics:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=prDoGmY5kj8

This clip features Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt". Some of you may not like it, as the transcription of the recording was unfortunately enriched by a German version of the lyrics. Still, if you don't mind:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIbepKZC7Po&feature=related

... if you DO mind, you can watch the official Johnny Cash video (no lyrics, however; you have to google them):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmVAWKfJ4Go&feature=related

Your job is to listen to the song co-articulating every word Trent Renzon (NIN)/Johnny Cash sings. If you can sing, you can knock yourself out at home; if you were not blessed with this rare talent, do it silently just moving your articulators as if you were singing. You will show me what you learned next class :-)

All best.

narrative tenses - revision

Since most of you did not do astonishingly well in your final tests when it came to using present and narrative tenses, I suggest you revise this topic at home before we do it altogether in class.

To jog your memory on when to use narrative tenses watch this slideshow:
http://www.slideshare.net/eoialcala/narrative-tenses-presentation

...and do a few exercises:

fainting goats and walruses which work out to stay in shape :-)

My dear Matura Students,

if you want to enrich your vocabulary on nature and geography, don't hesitate to visit the National Geographic website! I highly recommend the weird & wacky videos in the "Kid Videos" section, but there are also other amazing clips in there, such as "Bodies Make Up Fake Coral Reef". And that's just for starters. :-)

Here is the link to their homepage: http://www.nationalgeographic.com/

To get an idea of what it feels like to take part in this kind of competition, you can have a look at a clip presenting triathlon enthusiasts talking about this sport:

Practical Grammar 1

As soon as you have done all the exercises from Vince's book, you can test yourself at the following websites:

http://www.projectx2002.org/english_hotpots/set_grammar.html?past_tenses_dracula.htm

Good luck :-)

Pronunciation

Those of you who are interested in improving their pronunciation skills should have a look at mgr Beata Mikołajewska's blog:

Matura students

I've just come up with an idea how to help you chill out before the approaching Matura exam and ... revise at the same time. Additionally, if you do what I ask you to, you will gain one star. :-) All you have to do is walk through the following game:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/ks2bitesize/games/questionaut/pop.shtml
You can play it online, for free (legally).

*                          *                           *                          *                           *                           *
After the winter break, I will ask you about some details connected to the game. If you prove me you at least tried to walk through this game (which is quite challenging at moments), you will get a star.

GOOD LUCK and have fun!
